The Sourcing Covenant

Five articles, kept short because they are kept. Signed by the founder; audited every year.

Article I

Named mines

Every principal stone is bought only where the mine can be named, and only with its origin shown on paper. If the mine cannot be named, the stone is not bought, whatever its price. The register lists them all.

Article II

The cutters

Our cutters are named on the papers and paid as craftsmen, not brokers — in Nairobi, at rates we publish to them in writing before the wheel turns. A stone cut resentfully shows it; ours are not.

Article III

The papers

Every principal stone travels with a laboratory report — GIA or IGI — and an origin certificate, both numbered, both verifiable by you at the laboratory’s own register. Accent stones are matched in-house and said so plainly. No paper, no sale.

Article IV

The chain

Between the mine and the atelier there is at most one hand, and we know its name. Nothing enters the house uncounted; nothing leaves it unregistered. The day this article cannot be kept for a stone, that stone is returned.

Article V

The audit

Beginning MMXXVII, the covenant is examined each year by someone we do not employ, and the findings are published in the Journal including the failures, said plainly. A promise that fears its own audit is a slogan.
